A nine-year-old kid was sitting at his desk when suddenly there is a puddle①puddle 英 ［'pʌd（ə）l］ 美 ［'pʌdl］ n. 水坑，泥潭；胶土（由粘土与水和成，不透水）vt. 使泥泞，搅浑；把……捣制成胶土；搅炼；用胶土填塞 vi. 搅泥浆；在水坑中嬉戏The children always puddle about after a rain. 雨后孩子们常在水坑中泼水玩耍。between his feet and front of his pants is wet. He thinks his heart is going to stop because he cannot possibly image how this has happened. It's never happened before， and he knows that when the boys find out he will never hear the end of it. When the girls find out， they'll never speak to him again as long as he lives .

The boy puts his head down and prays his prayer， "Dear God，this is an emergency②emergency 英 ［ɪ'mɜːdʒ（ə）nsɪ］ 美 ［ɪ'mɝdʒənsi］ n. 紧急情况；突发事件；非常时刻 adj. 紧急的；备用的We always regard him as a friend， but he showed his colours in the current emergency.我们一贯把他看作朋友， 但在当前的紧急关头中， 他原形毕露了。！ I need help now！"

He looks up from his prayer and here comes the teacher with a look in her eyes that says he has been discovered.

As the teacher is walking toward him， a classmate named Susie is carrying a goldfish bowl that is filled with water. Susie trips in front of the teacher and dumps the bowl of the water in the boy's lap. The boy pretends to be angry，but all the while is saying to himself， "Thank you， Lord！ Thank you， Lord ！"

Now all of a sudden， instead of being the object of ridicule ， the boy is the object of sympathy . But the ridicule③ridicule 英 ［'rɪdɪkjuːl］ 美 ［'rɪdɪ'kjʊl］ vt. 嘲笑；嘲弄；愚弄 n. 嘲笑；笑柄；愚弄You have done all this！ and yet you can treat the mention of his misfortunes withcontempt and ridicule.这些事都是你做的，可是人家一提到他的不幸，你还要鄙视和嘲笑。that should have been his has been transferred to someone else-Susie.

She tries to help ， but they tell her， "You've done enough， you idiot ！"

Finally， at the end of the day，as they are waiting for the bus，the boy walks over to Susie and whispers，"You did that on purpose，didn't you ？ "

Susie whispers back， "I wet my pants once too."

一个九岁的小男孩正坐在课桌旁，突然在他两脚之间出现了一滩水，他的裤子前面湿了一片。他觉得心脏都要停止跳动了，他甚至不能相信这是怎么发生的。他以前从没尿过裤子，他知道一旦男孩子们发现了，就会被取笑个没完没了；一旦女孩子们发现了，在他有生之日，她们再也不会理睬他了。

当老师朝他走近的时候，一个名叫苏茜的同学正端着一个盛满水的金鱼缸。苏茜在老师的面前绊倒了，鱼缸里的水洒在了男孩的腿上。男孩假装很生气，心里却一直对自己说：“感谢上帝！感谢上帝！”

现在，突然间男孩得到了大家的同情，而不是嘲笑。但是原本应该由他承受的嘲笑却落到了另一个人身上 苏茜。

苏茜想要帮忙，但是他们却让她走开：“你惹的麻烦够多了，你这个笨蛋！”

终于，这一天结束了，孩子们正在等车，男孩子走到苏茜面前小声说：“你是故意那么做的，是吧？”

苏茜小声回复：“我也曾经尿过一次裤子。”
