Compete at the 2016 Rio Olympics

More than 10,000 athletes from 207 countries and regions competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, so sparking once more the global audiences passion for competitive sports.

A total of 416 Chinese athletes competed on this occasion in 210-odd events in more than 26 sports. As of August 17, China ranked No.3 in both the gold medal and the overall medal count.

China has been a traditional global leader in events such as table tennis, diving, shooting, and weightlifting. Ma Long and Ding Ning respectively won the mens and womens singles, so becoming the new Grand Slam table tennis winners. This signified their winning singles titles at the World Championships, World Cup, and Olympics. Chinese divers won three golds and one bronze in four synchronized diving events. Chinese diving diva Wu Minxia became the first woman to win a gold medal in four consecutive Olympics, and also set a record by winning seven Olympic medals. Chinese weightlifters also won four gold medals despite certain unexpected events.

The Chinese team also achieved zero breakthroughs in certain Olympic events. China claimed its first cycling Olympic gold after Gong Jinjie and Zhong Tianshi won the womens team sprint in the Rio Olympic Velodrome. Cheng Xunzhao won a bronze medal in the mens 90kg judo class, so marking the countrys best male judoist Olympic performance. Xu Jiayu won the silver medal in the mens 100-meter backstroke, and Wang Shun won the mens bronze medal in the 200-meter medley swimming, also making history. Chinas Alex Hua Tian came eighth in the Olympic equestrian event, so making a breakthrough for the country in this event. Four players represented China as golf returned to the Olympics for the first time since 1904, Li Haotong ranked 17th on the opening day.

Winning honor for the country was the common goal of all athletes. The gaining of medals in new fields also showed Chinas sports development. Meanwhile, athletes personal experience from the Olympic arena will be beneficial to the countrys sports progress.
