The Duty of UN Peacekeepers

We love peace（和平）.But sometimes there are wars and disasters（灾难）in the world. Peacekeepers（维和警察）help people in those places. They help us live happily in a peaceful world.

我们热爱和平，但有的时候这个世界会有战争和灾难。维和警察就是给这些受灾地区给予帮助的人。他们帮助我们在一个和平的世界里快乐地生活。

They come from more than 120 different countries， like China， the United Kingdom， the United States and so on. The United Nations （UN，联合国）gives orders（命令）to them.

他们来自120多个不同的国家，如中国、英国、美国等。他们听命于联合国。

Blue helmets蓝盔战士

UN peacekeepers always wear light blue berets（贝雷帽）or helmets（头盔）. So people call them Blue Berets or Blue Helmets（蓝盔战士）.On their berets or helmets，there are two letters， UN.

联合国维和警察总是穿浅蓝色贝雷帽或头盔，所以人们叫他们“蓝色贝雷帽”或“蓝盔战士”。在他们的贝雷帽或头盔上印有两个字母“UN（联合国）”。

Their task肩负重任

The main task（主要任务）of eacekeepers is to keep peace in the world. When there is a war somewhere， peacekeepers go there to help people stay out of danger.

维和警察的主要任务就是维护世界和平。当某处发生战争时，维和警察就到那里帮助人们远离危险。

When there is an earthquake，a tsunami（海啸）or other disasters， peacekeepers go there to help people. They help to save peoples lives and build new homes.

当有地震、海啸或其他灾害时，维和警察就去哪儿去帮助受灾的人们。他们帮助挽救人们的生命，帮助人们建立新的家園。

They also help build roads and bridges，treat（治疗）patients，transport materials（运输物资）and clear explosives（爆炸物）.

他们还帮助受灾地区修建道路和桥梁、治疗病人、运输物资和清理爆炸物。

Who can be a peacekeeper？如何成为维和警察

There are very strict rules（规定）for selecting（挑选）peacekeepers. In China， a peacekeeper must be more than 25 years old. He or she has to work as a police officer for at least（至少）eight years first. A peacekeeper should be able to（能）speak English.They should know UN rules very well. He or she must have good driving skills. And of course， they should be healthy.

维和警察的挑选规则非常严格。在中国，一个维和警察必须超过25岁。重要的是，他或她必须当过警察，而且至少有8年的警察工作经验。维和警察要会说英语，还要非常了解联合国的规章制度，必须有良好的驾驶技术。当然，他们还应该是身体健康的。

If a person fits（符合）all the conditions（条件），he or she can take an exam. The Ministry of Public Security（公安部）holds this exam.

如果一个人符合了所有条件，他或她就可以参加考试了。公安部负责举办这次考试。

How to become a peacekeeper？如何和成为维和警察

After people pass the exam， they can go to receive training（接受培训）.It takes about three months. They take many different classes in the training， like language， shooting（射击），driving，first aid（急救）， mine sweeping（扫雷）and how to live outdoors.

报考人员通过考试后，他们就开始接受培训。培训时间大约三个月。这其中有许多不同类的培训，如语言、射击、驾驶、急救、扫雷和如何在野外生存。

After the training，they have to pass a UN exam.

训练结束后，他们还必须通过联合国的考试。

May 29 is the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers（联合国维和人员国际日）.Every year the UN holds a ceremony（典礼）for peacekeepers on this day.It makes people remember the peacekeepers working for the UN and the peacekeepers who lose their lives.
