There is an old saying in China that a daughter is the lover of her father in a previous life. This may be true to some extent. All daughters have a pair of eyes and lips and look just like their fathers. There is nothing that can cut their consanguinity. He wanted to take care of her fragility ever since she was a little baby. He is such a man whom she knows she could rely on. He is my lover.

Since childhood, he has always called me “son.” Nevertheless, I am the only daughter of my father. As another old saying in China goes, a spoilt daughter, a free-range son. That is the reason why my father calls me “son.” to help me be as strong as a boy.

Standing one meter and eighty with a tanned and healthy looking body, he liked to play cool when he was young. When I was at nursery school, he used to pick me up every day. On one occasion, my classmates told me that my father was really handsome when riding a motorcycle. I was a shy girl and hated being the center of attention in a group, so I didnt allow my father to take me to school the next day. He later found out, and never stopped telling that story. I suspect it was to prove to himself that he is very attractive to kids. He is now a heavy, paunchy man with a kind, lined face. How time flies. There are days I actually wish there was a time machine to bring back his old self.

My family lives in ShaoGuan. Even though we live in the downtown area, it doesnt take us much time to travel to some remote mountains. My dad loved to hunt, and he used to borrow a gun from his old friend. One day, he took me along on one of his hunting trips to this beautiful mountain. Luckily, we didnt come back empty handed.

My dad would tell me stories while waiting for a wild animal. There was no light in the mountain and the night was so mysterious. But I was not afraid of the darkness at all because he was there with me. And I still remember the twinkling of the stars in the sky. This is the reason why I have such a fondness for mountains now. He always told me to have fun while learning and to appreciate the joys of life.endprint

He is not strict at all. However, I remember always being against my mom when I was young. I think it was because she was the one responsible for my studies. Once, my mom and I had a row. She was so angry that she mistakingly told me that my dad also broke into my room to check my things. I was so infuriated that I bought a lock for all of my secrets. I blamed my parents for not respecting me. I now realize I was amiss because they did it for love.

He likes to make fun with me. Once, my mother was away on official business and he had to cook for me. However, he forgot to shop some food. So, he just fried two apples with milk. He look at me with an enigmatic smile, told me this is the most nutritious meals. It is really weird that I couldnt swallow it.

I have thought about a lot of adjectives, hoping one of them could describe my father. However, I could not find an appropriate one. Every fathers existence is special for their youngsters. If love is an adjective, perhaps it is the most appropriate way to describe a father.

Soon before leaving home for advanced study, I could not get on with him like I used to. Even when I was on holiday, I would spend my time with my friends and electronic products. I still remember spending my holiday with my dad to learn how to play Chinese chess. Thankfully, lots of sweet memories remain.

Being a grown-up might mean being independent. Even so, does being independent mean moving far away from our parents?Probably not, but I wonder whether the age of cell phones and electronic products washed us away from spending time with loved ones.

Writing this essay reminds me of my happiness moment with my father. And my dad, I didnt tell you I love you enough.endprint
