1.contented， satisfied

The poor are often contented，but a miser is never satisfied. 穷人常知足，守财奴永不满足。

[辨析]contented侧重指在心理上一定程度的“满足”。satisfied 表示人的要求、希望得到完全满足。

2.allow，permit

Hunting is allowed in this area，though not officially permitted. 在这个地区是可以狩猎的，尽管法律上并不允许。

[辨析]allow是日常用语，指允许某人干某事，含有消极的意味，侧重于听任、默许、不按常规做事。permit含有积极正面的意义，多用于正式场合。表示法律上的“许可”，常用permit。

3.remember，recall

Tom remembered her face， but he cant recall where he met her. 汤姆记得她的面孔，但是想不起来在哪儿见过她。

[辨析]remember表示自然而然地想起。recall意为“回忆;想起”，相当于 look back at，通常指经过一定的思索才想起。

4.couple，pair
