Speaking of Christmas, what do you remember the most? Is it the tree full of decorations? Is it the “Merry Christmas” you learned in English class? If you ask me, my answer would be, the loving spirit of Christmas season that fills every place.

Right after Thanksgiving in November, the people in town decorated their houses in Christmas style. There are LED lights under roofs and on the bushes in the front yards. They are in shapes of icicles, waterdrops, and balls. They are also very colorful: warm yellow, silver-white, and rainbow colors. Some people also place shiny, glowing figures on their lawns, like reindeer, snowman, sledge, and Santa. When it gets dark, the streets in town are as bright as daytime, like an ever-bright city.

Christmas is a statutory holiday in the US. American schools usually take a week-long winter break. As a tradition, staff and students all wear Christmas theme sweaters. From a distance, it looks like a sea of red and green, joyful and festive.

The following day, Christmas Eve, also happens to be my birthday. My parents and I took a train to New York City for my birthday, and also for seeing the famous tree in Rockefeller Center. On that day, the city of New York was also filled with the merry spirit of Christmas. Giant garlands hanged on street lights. Rockefeller Center was so crowded, full of people who were there to see the well-known tree. Ever since the first Christmas tree being erected in Rockefeller Center in 1931, it has become a tradition.

Admiring the world-famous tree, my eye sights went vague. Only the colorful, shiny lights were visible. Close my eyes, I could hear the indistinct singing of cheerful Christmas songs and the ringing of bells. I could clearly hear the pleasant laugh of children, and the sweet words between two lovers. Open my eyes, I saw the resplendent lights of New York City had brightened the faces of everyone. Even the air was filled with a sweet smell of deserts. The loving spirit of Christmas surrounded me, making my lips curled up. This is the essence of Christmas!
