1. train  vt. & vi.  训练;培训;接受训练

常用搭配：

（1） train （sb） as/in/for  训练（某人）成为……/在……方面训练（某人）/为……训练（某人）

They trained him as an engineer.

他们把他培养成一名工程师。

We are not trained in the matter of agricultural business.

我们在农业生意方面没有受过训练。

They spend two hours training for the race every day.

他们每天花两个小时的时间练习赛跑。

（2） train sb to do sth  训练某人做某事

They trained the soldiers to fight.

他们训练士兵打仗。

2. frighten  vt.  使吃惊;惊吓

The stranger who hangs around the building frightens me.

在楼前徘徊的陌生人惊吓了我。

（1）be frightened of sb/sth  害怕某人（事）

I am frightened of cats.

（2）be frightened to do sth  害怕做某事

I was frightened to look down from the top of the tall building.

The little girl was frightened that her mother wouldnt come back.

比较：travel，journey和trip的区别

travel一般指到国外或远方旅行，它与journey不同之处在于不着重某一目的地，有到各地“游历”的意思，作名词时常用复数形式;trip常指短距离的旅行。在日常用语中，trip可与journey通用。

He has just returned from his travels.

他刚刚旅行回来。

My uncle is travelling in South America.

我叔叔在南美洲旅行。

I am going on a trip to the seaside during the summer holidays.

暑假期间我将去海边旅行。

5. distance  n.  距离;间距

It is a long distance from New York to Hong Kong.

They saw a few houses in the distance.

6. desert  n.  沙漠

The team was stranded in the desert.

8. event  n.  事情;大事;事件

The event has harmed relationship between the two countries.

We are closely following the development of world events.

我們在严密注视着国际局势的发展。

比较：event，accident，matter和affair的区别

event尤指重要事情，大事;accident指事故（突发事件或偶发事件）;matter指事情，问题，麻烦;affair指事件、事务、私事，常用复数。

She was injured badly in the accident.

她在事故中受重伤。

Happily， the accident was avoided.

很幸运，事故得以避免了。

We have more important matters to think about.

我们还有更重要的事情需要考虑。

I have been very interested in foreign affairs.

我对外交事务非常感兴趣。

9. interview  n. & vt.  面试;面谈;采访

I have a good opinion of the man I interviewed yesterday.

我对昨天面试的那人很有好感。

A reporter from The Washington Post interviewed the President.

一位《华盛顿邮报》的记者采访了总统。

Ive just had an interview for a post and I think Ive got it.

我刚进行了一份工作的面试，我认为我得到这份工作了。

10. scenery  n.  风景;景色

The scenery in my hometown Chengdu is beautiful beyond expression.

11. exhausted  adj.  疲惫不堪的

Their spirits were in general exhausted.

他们都兴致已尽。

She returned home， exhausted from her day in the city.

她在城里逛了一天后精疲力竭地回到了家里。

注意：在日常英语中，人们表达“疲惫的”，常说worn out，而不说exhausted。

You look worn out.

你看上去累坏了。

exhaust  vt.  耗尽;使非常疲倦

12. abandoned  adj.  被遗弃的;被放弃的

There was an abandoned house by the riverside.

河边有一所无人居住的房子。

She is an abandoned girl.

He finally abandoned his ideas.

This paragraph refers to the events of last year.

这一段说的是去年发生的事。

The term “Arts” usually refers to humanities and social science.

14. out of date  过时的;陈旧的

Her dress is out of date.

她的衣服样式已过时。

This kind of machine is out of date.

这种机器陈旧了。

up to date  最新式的;现代的

15. not... any more  不再

I wont do the stupid things any more.

我不会再做那些愚蠢的事情了。

Now she isnt afraid any more.

现在她再也不害怕了。

比较：not... any more与not... any longer的区别

not... any more = no more，表示数量和程度不再增加，一般指今后不再，多用于将来时。not... any longer = no longer，表示时间和距离不再延长，多指现在与过去相比。

My shoes have been repaired three times. They cant be repaired any more.

我的鞋已修三次，不能再修了。

I have waited here two hours. I cant wait any longer.

我已经在这儿等了两小时了。我不能再等了。
