An exhibition titled  is scheduled to run from June 19 to August 23, 2020 at China National Silk Museum based in Hangzhou. This is the first heavy-weight show of the Silk Road Week at China National Silk Museum. The show is also an academic study of the history of the Silk Road.

Generally speaking, the Silk Road dates back to 138 BC when Zhang Qian, an envoy of the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD), started his westward journey to visit the western region of the Tang Empire. In 1877, Ferdinand von Richthofen coined the phrase Silk Road. In 2014, the Silk Road was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is 2,152 years from 138BC to 2014AD. This was a manmade trade route. But what is the Silk Road exactly? How many silk trade routes did exist back then? A group of articles in this issue of Cultural Dialogue gives a general picture of the Silk Road in history.
