Scientists are racing to unravel the mysteries of a new coronavirus that has recently appeared in the world. The outbreak is now a global public health emergency. The germs rapid spread has sparked global concern. It is also causing many problems among researchers and the public alike.

Scientists call the new germ 2019 novel coronavirus， or 2019?nCoV. On February 11， they started calling the disease COVID?19.

There are currently no reports of pets getting sick with COVID?19. Several types of coronaviruses can infect animals. In some cases it can make them ill. So the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention， or CDC， advises avoiding contact with pets and wearing a face mask if you are sick.

People with COVID?19 may develop a fever， cough and difficulty breathing， according to the CDC. These symptoms are similar to SARS. Though many COVID?19 patients might experience mild symptoms， others can develop pneumonia.

The new virus is spreading from person to person in China and several other countries. They include the United States. So far， its not clear how many people the virus has infected. Researchers are attempting to come up with a good estimate. Through the mid?February， most of the thousands of people with confirmed diagnoses of the new virus were in China. But several other countries also reported isolated cases. Many of these patients had just returned from a trip to China. Symptoms dont appear right away. That means many infected people may show no or mild symptoms.

There is no drug or vaccine to treat or prevent COVID?19. But there are things people can do to limit the chance that they will become infected. And they arent much different from what youd do to keep from picking up colds or the flu， the CDC says. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Other tips include covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze. Finally， dont touch your eyes， nose or mouth with unwashed hands.

The story of Atalanta

Atalanta was a Greek princess. She was very beautiful and could run faster than any man in Greece. But she was not allowed to run and win glory for herself in the Olympic Games. She was so angry that she said to her father that she would not marry anyone who could not run faster than her. Her father said that she must marry， so Atalanta made a bargain with him. She said to him， “These are my rules. When a man says he wants to marry me， I will run against him. If he cannot run as fast as me， he will be killed. No one will be pardoned.”

The race started and although the men ran very fast， Atalanta ran faster. As Hippomenes watched he thought， “How can I run as fast as Atalanta？” He went to ask the Greek Goddess of Love for help.She promised to help him and gave him three golden apples. She said， “Throw an apple in front of Atalanta when she is running past. When she stops to pick it up， you will be able to run past her and win.” Hippomenes took the apples and went to the King. He said， “I want to marry Atalanta.” The King was sad to see another man die， but Hippomenes said， “I will marry her—or die！” So the race began.
