Designed by Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum as a Joint-Producer:

Accessories with the pattern of Palace Architectures andseries of bags, scarves and accessories have been listed in the “2020 Chongqing Gifts for Foreign Affairs”.

potteries and porcelains series,“Encountering Splendid Daxi” tableware sets, and Bashu Gift Packages have been listed as “Chongqing Gifts for Foreign Affairs” in 2021.

“Encountering Splendid Daxi” tableware sets were inspired by the discovery of Daxi heritage site in Chongqing Wushan County, one of the greatest one-hundred archeology discoveries in a century entitled in the 3Archeological Conference. Daxi heritage site was first found in three gorges area in the 1920s by the expedition team for Central Asian discoveries of American Museum of Natural History. Since the 1950s, a number of archaeological explorations have been carried out by China National Cultural Relics Task Force. In 2017, the exhibition themed “Entering Yangtze River Civilization: Exploring Daxi Culture” was held in Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, comprehensively introducing Daxi Culture from perspectives of economy and social life, art and religion, ethnic groups and tribes, thus further enhancing people’s understanding of the diversity and integrity of Chinese Civilization.

Fully acknowledging the features of Daxi Painted Potteries, the team of creative cultural products designed bowls based on the shape of traditional Chinese conical cap and decorated each bowl with one of the five classical patterns of Daxi Painted Potteries including scratches, modeled designs and coloring patterns. The bowls are made of white pottery and ash glaze by leveraging the techniques from Chongqing Rongchang County. The bowls boast antiquity and fashion features and are environmental and user friendly. “Encountering Splendid Daxi” tableware, the best gift showing our ancestors’ pursuit of courtesy, depicts a vivid image of the ancient culture and life along the rivers and mountains.

According to Chi Lin, head of the creative cultural product and cooperation department of Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, by adopting innovation and new model of cooperation among the museum, colleges, universities and enterprises, the museum invited design teams from colleges and universities to facilitate the integration of ancient and modern culture. Thanks to everyone’s contribution in brainstorming, communication and exploration, inclusive culture combining the ancient and modern culture comes into being. In addition, creative cultural products play an important role in unleashing the creativity, influence and impact of museums, functioning as the best carrier to convey history and culture to the younger generations.

Recently, “Tea Cups from Famous Ancient Kilns”,produced by Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum with the porcelain-making techniques originated from Rongchang, which have been listed as an intangible cultural heritage, are prevalent on Sina Weibo,a social media platform. Thanks to a popular TV series called A Dream of Splendor in which the ancient tea culture was presented by a set of famous pottery tea cups in nine different styles and colors collected by the female protagonist. A museum culture lover has found the resemblances between the collection in the TV series and the tea cups of the Three Gorges Museum and posted them on Sina Weibo. This set of tea cups of the museum were designed based on six ancient tea cups in Southern Han Dynasty, Nan Chao, Song Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. Many netizens commented the post, saying that“this set is so pretty!”, “I want it so much. I can’t wait to go to the museum”.

Creative cultural products are crucial in passing down education, publicity and cultural inheritance, and heritages in the museums are the inspirations and core of the designs. For example, many of the “Museum Treasures”, including bronze bird-shaped statue in Warring States period excavated from Fulin County, bronze percussion with a tiger-shaped button on its top in Warring States period excavated from Wanzhou District, and The Night Revels of Han Xizai facsimiled by Tang Yin in Ming Dynasty can be seen on bags, tea trays, silk scarves and accessories, which are interesting and practical while displaying the history, knowledge and art behind them.

Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum is committed to international cooperation by tracing back and passing down the Bayu Culture and spreading the brilliance of Chinese Civilization. It has successively signed letters of intent for cooperation with well-known foreign museums including the Baker Museum of Seattle in the United States, the National Museum of Wales in the United Kingdom, the Toulouse Museum in France, and the Nubian Museum in Egypt, co-organized cultural heritage and art exhibitions with foreign cultural institutions of the United Kingdom, France,Germany, Canada, Peru, Russia, India, Japan, Israel, etc., and introduced creative cultural products of Chongqing to the world.
