CIIE Helps to Raise African Exports To China

According to a representative from Wines of South Africa, an organisation focused on promoting South African wine exports to global markets, the Chinese market continues to offer a significant opportunity for South African wineries to increase their presence in East Asia.As an example of continued efforts in this region, last month the China International Import Expo (CIIE) saw participation from more than 20 South African wine companies, such as KWV, Bacchus Wine, Wellington Wines,Cape Wine Company,Francois van Niekerk Wines, Gun Bay Wines,and Vinette Wine.Notably,South African wine exports to China, including sparkling wine, amounted to$17.3 million from January to September.This shows a substantial increase of 28.2 percent compared to the same period in 2022 when it was $13.5 million.Alko Vintages, a local winery based in Dodoma,Tanzania’s capital, also showcased a range of its wine brands at the event.

For the first time there was a designated area for African agricultural products at the CIIE, further cementing the fact that more agricultural produce from the continent is entering the Chinese market,such as pineapples from Benin.CA
