more than

1. more than用于数词之前，意为“超过；不止；以上”，相当于over。

例1Altogether more than 70 percent of the surface of our planet is covered by water.我们这个星球的表面总共有 70% 以上的部分都被水覆盖。

2. 当用于形容词、副词前时，意为“非常；十分”，与 very 同义。

例2Id be more than happy to sit down and discuss this with you.若能坐下来跟你讨论一下这事，我会非常高兴。

例3She is more than careful in doing things.她做事非常细心。

3. 也可用于名词之前，意为“不只是；不仅仅是”。

例4Hibernation is more than sleep.冬眠不仅仅是睡眠。

1. 用于比较句型。

两者都意为“只有；仅仅；不过”， no more than多用于书面语，not any more than则常用于口语。

not more than

not more than 用于数词之前，意为“至多；顶多；不超过”，相当于at (the) most。

no more ... than

意为“不比……更……；与……同样不”，对前后都是否定的，常用来加重说话的语气。

not more...than

not more ... than 意为“不如……；不及……”，可与“not so/as...as”互换。应注意其与no more ... than的区别。

例13This story is not more interesting than that one. / This story is not so/as interesting as that one.
