I gaze up at you from afar.

Shining brightly in the curtain of night,

Northern Star,you are my light.

北极星，北极星，

赞美老师的诗歌举不胜举，在这些诗歌中人们常用不同的意象来象征老师的形象。本首小诗另辟蹊径，用北极星这一人们常见的事物来象征老师，象征老师给学生带来的光明。诗歌朴实无华、通俗易懂、感情真挚。诗歌共分成四节，各节均采用AABB式的押韵方式，读起来朗朗上口。诗歌将老师比喻成“rock in my wall”，并在诗歌的结尾句“Northern Star,you are my life”使用了暗喻的修辞，既强化了主题，又使得情感的表达更加热情。全诗交替使用第一人称和第二人称，让读者感觉到似乎作者正在与自己的老师进行着亲切的对话，这使得作者对老师的讴歌更加热情而饱满。
