1. 【句型回顾】However， he was always ready to try his best.  然而，他總是准备尽他最大的努力。

【解析】1）从语义上看，but所表示的是非常明显的对比，转折的意味较however要强。从语序上看，but总是位于所引出的分句之首，而however却可位于句首、句中和句末。从标点符号上看，but之后一般不使用逗号，而however则必须用逗号与句子其他部分分开。例：

Eat to live ， but do not live to eat.吃是为了活，但不要活着为了吃。

He thouht he should go there by train.Later，however，he changed his mind.

他认为他应该乘火车去那里，可是后来他改变了主意。

2）be ready to do sth.准备做某事。意思与get ready to do sth.相同，也可说成get ready for （doing） sth. 例：

Let’s get ready for the coming exam. 让我们为即将到来的考试做好准备吧。

3）try/do one’s best to do sth.尽某人最大努力做某事。例：

I’ll try my best to help you with your English. 我将尽力帮助你学英语。

【解析】1）promise用法：promise sth to sb 向某人许诺某事，promise sb sth 答应某人某事，promise to do sth 答应做某事，make a promise 许诺等。例：

Promise me you will not waste your time.

I promise to finish the work before Saturday. 我保证星期六前完成这项工作。

2） when的用法：when用作“当……时”来讲时，when从句不能用将来时，应用一般现在时，主句用将来时。例：

I will tell him about it when I see him. 我见到他时就告诉他这件事。

when当“何时”来讲时，when从句可以用将来时。例：

We don’t know when he will come back home. 我们不知道他什么时候会回家。
