1. Goddesses and she-males

Needless to say， we all know what a goddess is， like Audrey Hepburn， so beautiful and elegant that everyone admires her. In Chinese， people call a woman who is incredibly beautiful and shinning a goddess.

On the other side， what's the opposite of a goddess？ There is another group of girls that exist in our daily life； they act carelessly and sloppily1）； they always have a generous personality and are forthright2） by nature. Some are even more manly than men. In that case， these men-like women are called she-males. This word usually carries a positive meaning and is used to describe an independent girl who is not afraid of hardships. For example： She can fix all the household electrical appliances herself； she is really a manly girl.

2. Duang

Duang： This strange little word suddenly hit the Chinese Internet by storm and went viral3） throughout China. You can now hear people use it jokingly in the streets and on TV shows， everywhere！

This word doesn't actually have a meaning. It is a modal4） word like "oops"， "ta-da" or "boing"—a mimetic5） word to show your excitement or to describe something that happens all of a sudden. The majority of Chinese netizens also seems to use it as an adjective before another word to emphasize it. For instance， Duang， he fell down all of a sudden. Another example： Duang！ The door is open.

Duang first appeared in a Jackie Chan interview. In the interview， to show how he felt about a shampoo advertisement， he used this word to explain how magical the shampoo could be. Just like magic， after Duang a second your hair turns black again.

Since Duang didn't have a character associated with it in Chinese， netizens came up with this： It's a combination of Jackie Chan's name in Chinese + Duang written on top.

3. Tired AS a dog

Nowadays in China， a lot of sayings are used to express how tired or bored we feel， but the most popular slang expression is this one： "tired as a dog".

This word works more or less like an adjective， and means "like a dog" （adjective + as a dog）. So you can add anything you want in front， like "hungry as a dog"， "hot as a dog"， "poor as a dog"， anything you want. This slang expression works just like "I'm absolutely boiling". Both "like a dog" and "absolutely" are used here after the adjective to add emphasis.

You might be wondering why a dog？ I didn't find the answer as to how this all started， but just picture a tired little puppy face with its little tongue hanging out of its mouth， lying on the ground. I think it perfectly sums up our feeling. For example you can say： "Yesterday's homework was super hard， I was tired as a dog！"

4. Moe6）-moe cutie

Moe-moe cutie is an expression influenced by Japanese Manga7）. It is generally used to describe someone who is especially cute and lovely. This expression originated on Douban， a very popular social website used by Chinese teenagers， where people can exchange their thoughts about books， movies， music， events， blogs and other things. On Douban， one day a netizen posted "Today I forgot to take my medicine and I feel so cute".

You can use this word to express that someone is really cute or sometimes you can use it to make fun of yourself， just for fun. For example you can say： "Got my new haircut， I feel so cute." （Here， it has a positive meaning.）

5. Rich and bitch

Rich and bitch is a saying that says "you're rich so you can do whatever you want and bitch as much as you want".

This slang expression originates from a real event. One day in April 2014， Mr. Liu spent 1760 RMB online to buy a health care product. Soon after， he got a strange call persuading him to buy other drugs for the first product to be effective. In the following four months， Mr. Liu sent about 540，000 RMB to the fraud8） scheme. He said that he'd figured out after dishing out 70，000 RMB that it was a scam9） but kept going along with it. "I just wanted to see how much they could take from me！" said Mr. Liu. Everyone was amazed by his words and absurd rich-guy behavior. He must be really rich， huh？ So that's how the expression rich and bitch became popular.

6. Crazy or Drunk

The literal meaning of this expression is： being drunk. But now， it is used to show how helpless one feels， and in situations where one has nothing to say or doesn't understand. The slang's meaning is therefore closer to "Are you kidding me？！" or "Have I become crazy？！" For example： Look at that girl's way of dressing， have I become crazy？ Another example： Are you kidding me？！ We have that much homework？

7. You can you up

"You can you up" literally means "if you can do it， go ahead； if not， please shut up". It's especially used about people who like to criticize others， especially when the person who's doing the criticizing is not capable of doing the same thing as you. For example：

—I don't think he did well enough.

—If you think you can do it， just do it.

8. No zuo no die

"Zuo" in Chinese means to "act silly or daring". This saying means that if you don't do anything silly， you won't end up with bad consequences. Look at this conversation and you'll understand：

—I cheated on the exam yesterday， and I was caught in the act， now my grades have been canceled.

—If you hadn't been silly， you wouldn't have gotten into such trouble.

9. Have yourself a loneliness party

"Have yourself a loneliness party" is a popular saying that started when one day， a netizen posted a photo of himself eating noodles， with the accompanying sentence： What I am eating is not noodles， it's loneliness. Since then， this kind of saying has become very fashionable. Everyone thinks it's funny， cool and even a little ironic. Actually， this expression doesn't have a special meaning. You can use this expression when you feel lonely or bad or just for fun.

另一方面，与女神相对的又是什么呢？日常生活中还存在着这么一群女孩：她们做事粗心大意、马马虎虎；她们通常性格豪爽、天性直率，有些甚至比男生还像男生。在这种情况下，人们就把这些有点男性化的女性叫做女汉子。这个词通常是褒义的，用来形容那些不怕吃苦、独立自主的女孩。比如：她能自己修好所有家用电器，真是个女汉子。

如今在中国，人们用来表达自己感觉有多疲倦或多烦闷的说法有很多，但其中最常用的一句俗语是“累成狗”这个词。

这个词或多或少像一个形容词，意思是“……得像狗一样”（形容词+成狗）。所以你可以在前面加上任意一个你想加的词，比如“饿成狗”“热成狗”“穷成狗”，加什么都行。这个俗语就跟“我非常热”一样，“成狗”和 “非常”在这里都是用于形容词后以加重强调。

萌萌哒这个词是受日本漫画的影响而产生的，通常用来形容那些特别可爱的人。这个说法源自豆瓣，这是在中国青少年中很火的一个社交网站，人们可以在上面就书籍、电影、音乐、活动、博客和其他内容交流想法。有一天，一个网民在豆瓣上发帖称“我今天忘了吃药，感觉自己萌萌哒”。

你可以用这个词来表达某人真的很可爱，或者有时也可以用它自我调侃一番，纯粹为了好玩。比如你可以说：“我理了个新发型，感觉自己萌萌哒。”（这里它是褒义的。）

“有钱就是任性”这个说法的意思是“你有钱，所以你想干什么都可以，你想多任性都可以”。

这句俗语源自一个真实事件：2014年4月的一天，刘先生在网上花1760元买了一款保健品。不久后，他就接到一个陌生人的电话，对方劝他再买其他一些药以辅助前者的疗效。在接下来的四个月里，刘先生总共往这个诈骗案里扔了约54万元。他说他在汇出七万元钱时就已经发现自己被骗了，但仍继续给骗子汇钱。“我就是想看看他们到底能骗走我多少钱！”刘先生说。大家都被他这句话和有钱人的荒唐举动惊呆了。他肯定特有钱，是吧？于是，“有钱就是任性”这个说法就这么流行开了。

该表达的字面意思是“喝醉了”。但是现在，它被用来表达一个人感到多么无助，或者对眼前的情况感到无话可说或无法理解。因此，这句俗语的意思类似于“你在跟我开玩笑吧？！”或“难道是我醉了？！”比如：看那个女孩的穿着，难道是我醉了？再比如：是我醉了吗？！咱们真的有那么多作业？

“你行你上”的字面意思是“如果你能做这件事，你就去做，如果不行就请闭嘴。”这句话尤其适用于那些喜欢指责别人的人，特别是当他们也并不比别人强的时候。比如：

——我觉得他做得不怎么样。

——你行你上啊。

“作”在中文里的意思是“行事鲁莽愚蠢”。这句话的意思是：如果你不做蠢事，就不会给自己招来不良的后果。看看下面这段对话你就明白了：

——我昨天考试作弊被抓了个现行，现在我的成绩被取消了。

“寂寞党”这个流行词是这么来的。有一天，一位网民上传了一张自己吃面条的照片，并附上一句话：哥吃的不是面，是寂寞。从那以后，这种说法就流行开了。人们觉得它好玩、很酷，甚至带着点讽刺的意味。其实，这个说法并没有什么特别的意思。当你觉得寂寞、心情不好或者纯粹为了好玩时都可以这么说。
