The present situation of the motivation of learning English in kindergarten

Abstract:Motivation is very important in the field of education. This article aims at investigating the present situation of motivation of English learning in kindergarten as well as some feasible suggestions that will be put forward.

Key words:motivation of learning English; kindergarten;

1. Introduction

Since many years, many researchers not only domestic but also overseas have conducted a lot of researches about learning motivation. Since the late 20 century, western applied linguists and psychologists began to focus on learners' individual differences and they discovered that the motivation is one of the most influential factors in individual learners language learning.

2. Literature review

Studies of motivation:

William and Burden said, “Motivation is very significant for learning. There are many great theories of it, which can show its significance in psychology.

3. Research design

In this study, the investigators investigated the preschool English teachers and parents in more than 30 kindergartens in Lanzhou City in Gansu Province, and interviewed for some children. . And the quantity of female account for 80%.

There are questionnaires was involved for English teachers and parents. The questionnaire is based on a survey of the English learning motivation, combined with the characteristics of the children and the teacher's teaching situation.

4. Research results and discussion

The opinion of English teachers is obviously objective. 61% teachers said that the motivation of children is to cultivate their interest.20% them take into account for cultivating initial listening and writing ability.11% English teachers think that motivation is to lay a foundation in the future.

5. Suggestions

Most parents have yet a misunderstanding about motivation. Although the competition is too much fierce, our parents should not emphasize on the score of learning English.

6. Conclusion

The characteristics of physical and mental development of children determine the differences of learning English between English learning of children and English learning of adolescents and adults.
